Learn how to spin fibres and create your own yarn in this introduction to hand spinning.

We’ll begin by looking at the different fibres we can spin and their unique properties. Then we’ll make a spindle and use it to practise the basics of spinning before moving on to the wheel. We’ll look at how spinning wheels work (and how Sleeping Beauty really pricked her finger!) before spinning and plying yarn on the wheel. Along the way you’ll learn lots of tips and tricks and get personalised guidance to set you up for success with creating your own yarn.

You’ll leave the class with your first handspun yarn, a hand-made spindle to practise with and everything you need to know to spin more of your own yarn at home.

In order to spend as much time as possible spinning, we’ll be working primarily with pre-prepared wool but there will be opportunities to look at the basics of preparing raw fleece if desired.
